Wednesday 4th July 2012 – walk **** sunny periods

Woke up in Dale to rain but it had stopped by the time we got up and it gradually got brighter until there was ..........sun!!! We drove to Broad Haven after breakfast and were amazed to park for 2 hours for 60p! We set out to walk round the rocky headland from Broad Haven to Little Haven which you can do at low tide. It was a great walk on a beautiful beach in sunshine :) There is a huge cave at the end which I had a look at while Mag did some rock pooling :) Walked along the length of Broad Haven beach on the way back. Drove to a brilliant parking place on Newgale cliffs for lunch and read the paper then we walked down the cliff path to walk on the beach. At low tide there is lots of sand and we walked as far as we could on the beach then scrambled up the cliffs to the Welsh Coast Path. Mag slipped on the loose rocks and nearly disappeared over the edge but managed to climb up a different way. We walked to the huge tall rock at the end of the bay and sat there watching what we think was a peregrine falcon (or possibly a goshawk) It was flying over our heads but Mag hadn’t got the binocs so we couldn’t see too much detail. There was also a buzzard flying over and at least 3 kestrals. This morning we saw a buzzard on a telegraph pole and that was the closest and best look at one we had ever had :) We were out at least 2 hours so what with this morning’s walk we have done a lot today. Had a drink and finished off the paper then walked to Newgale for fish and chips but it is such a small hamlet there was no chip shop! Walked back and had mince and beans out of a tin. Beautiful spot for our overnight stop:)
